Another wonderful variation of Eberhard Faber’s vintage No. 174 Goldilocks and the Three Bears coloring set. This example features a different illustrated package design from other known No. 174 versions, with colorful storybook scenes incorporated throughout the sliding box, including the Three Bears approaching their woodland cottage, Goldilocks sampling the porridge, the three beds, and Goldilocks fleeing the house.
The set contains 8 “Permanent Colors” wood colored pencils and uses Eberhard Faber’s patented push-end/sliding box construction. The side is marked Eberhard Faber, New York, Made in U.S.A., and carries U.S.A. box patent numbers 1,165,612 and 1,631,595.
These old Eberhard Faber fairy-tale sets are especially fun because the packaging functions almost like a miniature illustrated storybook rather than simply a pencil box.
Condition: Displays nicely with strong, colorful graphics and all 8 colored pencils present. The box shows considerable age-related edge and corner wear, surface wear, staining/marks, and some old writing. The push-end portion has tearing, fraying, separation and weakening around the folds and seams, but the set remains substantially together and can be displayed assembled. Please review all photos closely for exact condition.
