Up for sale is a highly collectible, original 1946 World War II cruise book documenting the historic Pacific Theater operations of the heavy cruiser USS Minneapolis (CA-36). This privately printed volume was issued shortly after the war strictly for crew members and officers, making original copies incredibly scarce.
The book details the ship's entire wartime itinerary, including Pearl Harbor, the Battle of Tassafaronga (where she famously survived losing her bow), the Palau Operation (Angaur/Peleliu), Surigao Strait, Okinawa, and more. It features extensive black-and-white photography of shore bombardments, daily life at sea, and an invaluable alphabetical crew roster at the back.
CONDITION REPORT:
- Binding: Very solid, firm, and structurally sound. The spine is tight with no loose pages.
- Pages: Complete with NO rips, NO tears, and NO missing pages. The historical text, photos, and personnel roster are completely crisp, clean, and fully readable.
- Cosmetics: Features a light, neat vintage pencil inscription on the flyleaf ("From To Jan"). There is visible historical water/moisture tide-staining along the outer margins of several early pages (see photos). The staining is confined to the margins and does not obscure the text or photographs.
A fantastic, structurally superb reference copy for any WWII naval enthusiast or family historian looking to trace a relative's service.
Shipping: Ships USPS fully insured. Will be wrapped securely in bubble wrap and shipped in a sturdy box to preserve the binding. Please review all photos carefully before offerding.
