Up for sale is a beautifully preserved, original 19th-century 1/6 plate cased daguerreotype portrait.
Subject Details:
This image features an exceptional mid-19th-century men's fashion and style portrait. The gentleman is dressed in crisp formal 1850s attire, featuring a high white collar, a dark necktie/bow, and a tailored vest and coat. He features highly distinct, prominent, and period-accurate "mutton chop" style facial hair, giving the plate excellent visual presence for collectors of early photography.
Provenance Note:
This physical piece was previously associated with the early Utah pioneer John Parry family line. While it does not depict John Parry Sr. (the Tabernacle Choir director), it remains a genuine, beautifully preserved artifact from that exact pioneer photography era (c. 1850s). The specific identity of the sitter is undocumented, making this a fantastic mystery portrait for genealogy researchers, historic fashion enthusiasts, or antique photo collectors.
Condition:
This is a standard 1/6 plate daguerreotype. Condition & Casing:
This is a standard 1/6 plate daguerreotype. Please note that this item is housed in a half case only (the front lid/cover and hinge are not present). The original silvered copper plate resides securely within its vintage protective gold-colored matting and the remaining half of the leather-style case. Sold in untouched, as-found condition. The image itself displays excellent contrast, sharp focus, and the classic mirror-like finish characteristic of true, high-quality daguerreotypes. Please carefully review all photos to evaluate the physical half-case wear and plate condition.
