A very good 19thCentury (C. 1850’S) 2 blade hump backed whittler by Wade Wingfield Rowbotham with nice stag scales. The firm had a complicated history going back to around 1787. The Wade Wingfield Rowbotham name started use in 1818 and ended in the mid 1850’s with the retirement of Richard Wade (died 1867), at which time the company reverted to the name Wingfield, Rowbotham & Co.

Measures approximately 3 5/8 inches long overall, closed. Master blade measures approximately 2 ½ inches long, edge only. Obverse tang stamped “Wade Wingfield Rowbotham Sheffield”. Reverse tang with the “Harp” maker’s mark. Secondary blade measures approximately 1 ½ inches long, edge only. Obverse tang stamped “Sheffield Oil The Joints”. Good stag scales secured by three pins, obverse with unengraved oval shield. Nickel silver bolsters to each end. Brass liners.

Good snap to both blades. Blades with light scratching and edge wear, otherwise in excellent condition.
