Antique Dunlop & Madeira Broad Hewing Axe
This antique Dunlop & Madeira broad axe dates to the early 19th century and was manufactured in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Dunlop & Madeira operated the Lemnos Factory and were producing axes by at least 1830.
The head is marked DUNLOP & MADEIRA, CAST STEEL, and WARRANTED. The face also features extensive hand-punched decoration and lettering, likely added by an early owner.

Condition
This antique axe shows significant wear consistent with its age and use. The iron has oxidation, surface rust, scratches, pitting, and a dark aged patina. The wooden handle shows wear, scratches, discoloration, and age. The punched decoration and manufacturer markings remain visible.
