About the Machine
The 2009 ATK Intimidator 700 was one of the most extreme production motocross motorcycles ever sold. Although marketed by ATK in the United States, the machine was essentially a rebadged Maico open-class motocross bike powered by a massive 685cc liquid-cooled two-stroke single-cylinder engine.
Producing approximately 78 horsepower while weighing only about 238 pounds dry, the Intimidator delivered a power-to-weight ratio that few off-road motorcycles could match. Top speeds exceeding 110 mph were reported, making it one of the fastest dirt bikes ever offered to the public.
The bike featured a 685cc engine with a 5-speed transmission, large-diameter suspension components, hydraulic disc brakes, and a lightweight motocross chassis. ATK offered the Intimidator in limited numbers, targeting experienced riders looking for maximum power rather than beginner-friendly handling.
The Intimidator's roots trace back to the famous German Maico motorcycles. After the original Maico company fragmented during the 1980s, the design continued through various successor companies before ATK imported and rebadged the machines for the American market.
Today the ATK Intimidator 700 has achieved near-mythical status among two-stroke enthusiasts. Its huge displacement, explosive power delivery, rarity, and connection to the legendary Maico name make it one of the most sought-after modern open-class motocross motorcycles ever built.
