Celebrate one of the most outrageous big-bore two-stroke dirt bikes ever offered with this 8 x 10 inch glossy photo print featuring the 2009 ATK 700 Intimidator, unleashed in full Monsters on Machines style.
The artwork captures the massive ATK blasting down a rocky lakeside trail surrounded by brilliant autumn foliage, mountains and blue sky. The black-and-red dirt bike is leaned into the terrain with its knobby tires throwing rocks and dirt behind it, while the huge expansion chamber hints that this is definitely not your average trail bike.
At the controls is an equally excessive purple mutant with enormous bloodshot eyes, jagged yellow teeth and wild green, black and white hair, hanging onto the bars while nearly 700cc of two-stroke insanity does its thing.
Bold 2009 ATK lettering fills the top of the artwork, with huge INTIMIDATOR graphics and the MONSTERS ON MACHINES name completing the design.
And in this case, “Intimidator” was not marketing exaggeration.
The so-called ATK 700 actually displaced 685cc, using a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder two-stroke engine with a huge 100 x 87mm bore and stroke. Power went through a 5-speed transmission and chain final drive, with a 39mm Keihin carburetor listed in period specifications.
For 2009, ATK's version was closely tied to the Maico 700. Motocross Action reports that ATK imported the enormous Maico-based machine and rebadged it for the American market as the ATK 700 Intimidator. The project was short-lived, making the machine considerably more obscure today than the familiar Japanese motocross bikes of the same era.
And the numbers are wonderfully ridiculous.
The 685cc two-stroke was reported at approximately 78 horsepower, yet the motorcycle weighed only about 238 pounds dry. Motocross Action also cites a $12,995 MSRP and notes that a smaller 620cc version was available for riders who apparently thought 685cc of two-stroke single-cylinder power might be slightly excessive.
The chassis was equally serious. Published specifications list long-travel suspension, front and rear disc brakes, approximately 14 inches of ground clearance and a lofty 37.2-inch seat height.
In other words, this wasn't a mildly warmed-over trail bike wearing intimidating graphics. It was a lightweight off-road motorcycle wrapped around an absolutely enormous two-stroke single.
That makes the ATK 700 Intimidator exactly the kind of strange, rare and borderline unreasonable machine that belongs in the Monsters on Machines collection.
