Rare Antique Indian Vishnu Figure with Shesha / Ananta Serpent Canopy – Hindu Religious Collectible
Offered here is an impressive traditional Indian metal figure depicting what appears to be Lord Vishnu standing beneath the protective multi-headed canopy of Shesha, also known as Ananta, one of the most recognizable forms of serpent imagery associated with Vishnu in Hindu religious art.
The deity is represented standing upright on an elaborately decorated tiered pedestal. The figure is richly detailed throughout, with a tall ceremonial crown, finely patterned garments and jewelry, multiple arms and carefully modeled facial features.
One of the most visually striking elements is the large serpent positioned behind the deity. Its elongated body rises vertically along the reverse before expanding above the figure into a dramatic multi-headed cobra canopy. The reverse view reveals extensive scale-like decoration on the serpent hood and additional engraved detailing that is not immediately apparent from the front.
Decorative curved elements extend along both sides of the standing deity, producing a balanced and highly architectural composition. The pedestal incorporates repeated lotus-style ornamentation and engraved borders.
The metal has developed an attractive aged surface with areas of darker patination, oxidation, rubbing and tonal variation. These characteristics contribute considerably to the traditional appearance of the piece.
The figure weighs a substantial 802 grams (approximately 1 lb 12.3 oz) and measures approximately 8 inches (20 cm) high and approximately 4 inches (10 cm) across at its widest point.
The exact age, maker and metal composition have not been independently tested or authenticated. It is therefore being described based upon its visible characteristics and iconography rather than presenting an unsupported attribution.
This would make an attractive addition to a collection of Indian religious art, Hindu sculpture, Vishnu iconography, Asian antiques, devotional objects or traditional metalwork.
Condition: Pre-owned with age-related patina, oxidation, surface wear, rubbing, deposits and color variation. The detailed decoration remains readily visible. Please study all photographs closely for the exact condition and construction.
You will receive the exact figure shown in the photographs.
