This antique 1 gallon pre-prohibition whiskey jug dates from the early 1900's and still has the original paper labels. The front label reads "D.H. Russell Special Straight Kentucky Whiskey Louisville, Kentucky" and is mostly intact although it does have some minor loss around the edges and has some toning from age. The rear label is also mostly intact and mentions that the jug "holds 1 quart over the requested one gallon" and "measures are tested by the U.S. Sealer of Weights and Measures" D.H. Russell was one of many different owners of Old Times Distillery Co in Louisville, Kentucky in the early 1900's, shortly after they won a gold medal in 1893 at the World's Fair. They went out of business in 1914. The jug measures 11 1/2" tall and is free from any major damage, although it does have a small chip on the lip. Obviously very few of these survive with the original paper labels, making this antique pre prohibition jug very rare. A great addition to your collection!
