About John Pierpont (1785–1866):

He was a fierce abolitionist and advocate for temperance, using both his sermons and verse to advance social causes. His grandson, J.P. Morgan, would later become one of the most influential financiers in American history. Pierpont’s legacy includes both literary contributions and a courageous voice for reform during a pivotal era in U.S. history.
