Up for sale is an authentic, highly collectible vintage mid-century indigenous Southeast Asian miniature hunting set, consisting of a hand-crafted bamboo quiver with its original protective rawhide cap and four (4) miniature metal-tipped arrows/darts.
Sourced from a local estate collection, this ethnographic model is an incredible example of traditional tribal craftsmanship downscaled into a precise display size.
Design, Materials & Construction
• Quiver Casing: Constructed from a hollowed-out segment of native tropical bamboo or wood that retains its natural, rugged red-brown outer bark. The body is structurally reinforced with tightly wound bands of split rattan/plant fiber.
• Rawhide Caps: Both the fitted lid and the bottom plug of the quiver are made from traditional translucent animal rawhide, which was wrapped wet and shrunk-fit to form a rock-hard protective casing.
• Carrying Strap: Features an original loop made of stripped inner tree bark fiber (bast cordage), traditionally used to hang or secure the set.
• The Arrows: The set includes four (4) miniature shafts made from thin, node-heavy wild reed or split bamboo. The rear ends feature hand-carved, classic V-shaped self-nocks, tightly reinforced at the base with translucent plant fiber.
• The Arrowheads: The tips feature hand-shaped, triangular metal points cut and hammered from recycled sheet metal. They are bound tightly to dark wooden foreshafts with fine plant fiber and sealed with a natural tree-sap resin varnish.
Scale & Dimensions
• Arrow/Dart Length: Approximately 6.5\" to 7\" inches long (16.5 to 17.8 cm).
• Quiver Length: Approximately 8\" inches long (fits the arrows perfectly inside).
• Note: Due to the ~7-inch size, this set is a beautifully executed vintage miniature or instructional model rather than a weapon meant for full-scale hunting.
