Vintage photographic negative showing Cleveland Union Terminal / New York Central P-1a electric locomotive No. 213 operating beneath the Cleveland overhead catenary system.
No. 213 was one of the distinctive ALCO-GE 2-C+C-2 electric passenger locomotives constructed for Cleveland Union Terminal service. The locomotive was originally built in December 1929 as Cleveland Union Terminal No. 1063 and was renumbered No. 213 in 1936.
The visible No. 213 and Cleveland overhead electrical infrastructure place this image during the locomotive\'s P-1 operating period, approximately 1936–1953/55, likely circa the 1940s.
After Cleveland\'s electric operation was discontinued, the locomotive was rebuilt in 1955 for New York Central\'s third-rail electrified territory and became NYC P-2b No. 233. It was later renumbered NYC 4633 and subsequently Penn Central 4633.
Excellent broadside railroad scene showing the locomotive, running gear, pantograph/electrical equipment, multiple tracks and Cleveland Union Terminal catenary structures.
Vintage photographic negative. Please review the provided images carefully for exact condition, format and image quality. Dating is approximate unless otherwise noted.
Overall good condition. Signs of corner, edge, and surface wear consistent with age and handling. Slight smell due to age. Item as pictured.
A particularly appealing subject for collectors of New York Central, Cleveland Union Terminal, ALCO-GE electric locomotives, early railroad electrification and vintage railroad photography.
