Original Civil War–era carte-de-visite featuring an engraved portrait of Abraham Lincoln and his family, produced circa 1864–1865.
These idealized family groups were created by Northern artists during the war and issued widely as patriotic keepsakes, rather than being taken from life. The composition shows Mary Todd Lincoln seated, Abraham Lincoln reading from a document, Robert Todd Lincoln standing in military uniform, and Tad Lincoln at his side, with a memorial portrait of Willie Lincoln framed on the wall. The image is printed from an engraving onto albumen paper and mounted on a period double-line CDV card with a blank reverse, typical of mid-1860s commercial issues.
