Here is what AI says about this letter opener:
This is a vintage Wheaton Door Co. advertising letteropener, made of bright yellow molded plastic with a genuine pressedfour-leaf clover sealed beneath the clear circular window.
The lettering reads “LUCKY / GENUINE 4-LEAF CLOVER”and advertises:
WHEATON DOOR CO.
2440 ENNALLS AVE.
Aluminum Products
LO 5-8951 / LO 5-8399
It is 8inches long.
Date and company
This can be identified quite closely. A 1958 SherwoodHigh School yearbook advertisement lists Wheaton Door Co. and WheatonWindow Co., Carl R. Eby, 2442 Ennalls Ave., Wheaton, Maryland, with thesame LO 5-8951 telephone number. That firmly places this promotionalpiece in the Wheaton, Maryland area and makes a late 1950s to early 1960sdate very likely.
Carl R. Eby founded Wheaton Door Co. in 1948 andremained its president until 1983, according to his Washington Post obituary.
The two-digit telephone exchange format, the plastic styleand the contemporary company advertisement all fit nicely with a circa 1955-1962promotional giveaway.
Condition
Your example looks very good for its age. Thefour-leaf clover remains complete and clearly visible, the advertisinglettering is unusually strong, and I don\'t see a crack or major chip in theplastic. There is light surface soiling and ordinary age wear. Having theoriginal genuine clover intact is important.
