Vintage Pennsylvania Railroad passenger car interior photograph showing the dining room of a PRR Class D85C streamlined dining car.
The Pennsylvania Railroad\'s Budd-built D85C cars were 85-foot lightweight, 68-seat dining cars constructed in 1949 and operated as part of two-car dining sets with accompanying kitchen-dormitory cars. The cars featured multiple dining sections with upholstered seating and were used in PRR\'s premier postwar passenger service.
This photograph provides an excellent detailed view of the dining-car interior, including the tables, tufted passenger chairs, window blinds, overhead fixtures, ceiling treatment, and streamlined postwar furnishings.
Reverse is handwritten “PRR Class D85CR” and bears the original red stamp of Industrial Photograph Company, 411 S. 9th Street, Philadelphia 47, PA, Market 7-7412. Period railroad references generally identify the class as D85C; “D85CR” is retained here when referring to the handwritten notation on the photograph.
