Vintage 8x10 black-and-white railroad photograph showing a Chicago, Burlington & Quincy / Burlington Route E5-series streamlined diesel locomotive leading a passenger train.
The distinctive stainless-steel E5 locomotives were built for Burlington Zephyr passenger service beginning around 1940 and are among the most recognizable early streamlined American passenger diesels.
This photograph shows an E5 cab unit with additional Burlington power and passenger equipment behind it. Exact locomotive number and location have not been confirmed.
Reverse bears several interesting period/archive markings, including:
- “PLEASE DO NOT COPY – PUBLICATION RIGHTS RESTRICTED” stamp
- Charles A. Brown, Sutton, Massachusetts collection/archive stamp and handwritten notation
- Handwritten archive number “15952”
