Vintage photographic negative showing a small American Locomotive Company industrial / plant switcher, believed to be associated with the ALCO-Cooke Works in Paterson, New Jersey.
The locomotive is prominently lettered “AMERICAN LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY” along the side and appears to be a compact four-wheel shop or plant locomotive photographed beside an industrial building.
The original image itself appears to date from approximately 1910–1920, based on the locomotive styling, company lettering, and industrial setting. However, the negative offered here is likely a later mid-20th-century copy negative made from an earlier photograph, rather than the original camera negative from the 1910s.
Approximate negative dimensions are 4.4 x 3.5 inches.
Cooke Locomotive & Machine Works became part of the American Locomotive Company in 1901, and the Paterson facility subsequently operated as the ALCO-Cooke Works. The company-lettered switcher and factory setting make this an especially interesting subject for collectors of ALCO, Cooke Works, locomotive builders, industrial railroads, and early switching locomotives.
Please review the photos carefully for condition, surface wear, edge wear, handling marks, or other age-related imperfections.
Overall good condition. Signs of corner, edge, and surface wear consistent with age and handling. Slight smell due to age. Item as pictured.
