What
Original WWII-era Japanese art postcard set titled “Minami” (South), Volume 2, from the series Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere Sketch Collection (大東亜共栄圏写生画集). Includes 8 color lithograph postcards, each signed S. Misako with dates 1940–1942.
Who
Created by Japanese explorer-artist Seishu Misako (三迫星洲伯), who traveled and sketched scenes across Southeast Asia during the war years. His work documented local landscapes and cultures as seen through the eyes of a Japanese painter.
When
Published between 1940 and 1942 (Showa 15–17), at the height of Japan’s wartime expansion. The back cover still retains the official Tokyo inspection label, confirming its authenticity as a wartime original.

Depicts vivid scenes from across Southeast Asia:
- Malaya – fan palm groves, plantation roads
- Burma – water festival scenes
- Thailand – classical dancers and temples
- Philippines – stilt houses over water
- Java – Borobudur temple
