Vintage Soviet-era Fedoskino lacquer box featuring a beautifully detailed hand-painted depiction of St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow. The box has a glossy black lacquer exterior, vivid red interior and hinged lid.The original interior factory label identifies it as a product of the Fedoskino Factory of Miniature Painting and gives the subject as “Church of St. Basil the Blessed.” Marked “Made in USSR” and numbered 0117-16 on the underside. Original informational paperwork is included.Measures approximately 8 inches long, 6½ inches wide and 3½ inches tall. Vintage condition with light surface wear, small scratches and minor edge wear consistent with age. Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition. A striking and unusually large example of traditional Russian lacquer miniature artwork.Fedoskino boxes are traditionally made from papier-mâché and painted in oils using established miniature-painting techniques.
