Vintage Spokane Washington Riverside Avenue Postcard
Take a walk down Riverside Avenue in Spokane Washington back when crossing the street was essentially a giant game of Frogger involving massive metal streetcars and angry horses. This view looking west captures the absolute boom of early twentieth century architecture on the west coast. You have a towering white skyscraper looming on the right and street level businesses like Watsons Drugs desperately trying to flag down pedestrians on the left. It is a fantastic snapshot of a city trying to figure out how to balance early automobiles with classic public transit.
This piece of Pacific Northwest history is well over a century old, and it definitely shows a few honest miles. You will notice some soft rounded corners and general edge wear along the borders. The back is completely unposted with just a faint pencil mark near the top and some light age toning. Check out the high resolution photos to see exactly what you are getting before you decide to add it to your collection.
As an authentic vintage piece, this item may show typical signs of age, which can include minor edge wear, soft or bumped corners, slight yellowing, and light surface blemishes. If you zoom in on the left side of the street, you can clearly see a large hanging mortar and pestle sign right above the entrance to Watsons Drugs. This was a classic visual shorthand used by pharmacies back in the day to signal their business to folks who were either illiterate or just in way too much of a hurry to read actual lettering. You also get a great look at the vintage yellow streetcar making its run past the glowing Arcade sign on the right side of the avenue.
