Vintage circa 1935–1936 railroad print featuring Pennsylvania Railroad No. 4800, with artwork by noted American railroad and industrial artist Walter L. Greene (1870–1956).
Pennsylvania Railroad No. 4800 was the prototype locomotive that became the first of the railroad’s famous GG1 class, making this an especially interesting image for Pennsylvania Railroad and early electric locomotive collectors.
About the Artist: Walter L. Greene was a prominent American commercial and industrial artist best remembered today for his dramatic railroad and transportation artwork. Greene served as manager of the General Electric Art Department in Schenectady, New York, for 37 years beginning in 1903. During the 1920s and 1930s he produced numerous railroad and industrial paintings, including important work for General Electric and the New York Central Railroad. His railroad artwork was widely reproduced on calendars, posters and other promotional material and remains collected today.
This example measures approximately 16” x 12” and remains in as is condition
