A finely crafted Nantucket lightship \"friendship\" basket handbag. Features a tight, uniform cane weave over vertical staves, a solid wood bottom plate, a smooth beveled hardwood lid, and a bentwood swing handle. Secured at the front with a turned bone-style closure pin on a loop latch.
Weave & Body: Tight handwoven cane in a warm honey-amber patina. Clean braided rim binding.
Lid: Solid polished hardwood plate (cherry/walnut tone) with a clean unadorned surface.
Handle: Sturdy steam-bent wood swing handle that articulates smoothly.
Handle & Structural Note:
The steam-bent hardwood swing handle articulates smoothly on both side pins and remains 100% structurally rigid and strong. On the inner underside of the handle curve, a small wood fiber pulled away, leaving a minor shallow grain split/chip along the natural wood grain. It does not affect the strength of the handle or show when carried, but is clearly documented in close-up photos for full transparency.
