Offered is a wonderful vintage Halloween candy/nut box featuring a three-dimensional witch, pumpkin and black cat Halloween design.
This is an especially interesting variation because it does NOT have the “BUY BONDS” wording found on another version of this Halloween box. This example has a black cat on each side of the box, with the witch and pumpkin design on the front. The absence of the “BUY BONDS” wording makes this an appealing variation for the vintage Halloween collector.
The bottom is marked “PATENT PENDING” in black block lettering. There is no manufacturer name visible on the bottom.
Based on comparison with other examples and information from longtime Halloween collector Mark Ledenbach, this NO “BUY BONDS” version is believed to date to the 1950s. Please see all photographs carefully for the construction, graphics and markings.
CONDITION:
Very good vintage condition overall, with minimal wear to the box for its age.
There is a crease in the witch’s hat, which is visible in the photographs. I have photographed this area carefully so the condition can be fully evaluated. The box otherwise displays very well, with the colorful graphics and three-dimensional construction intact. I have not "opened" the box since it is secured very tightly, so I am not sure what is in the inside. But I did not want to do any harm to the closure tabs.
As with any vintage paper/cardboard Halloween collectible, there may be minor signs of age, storage and handling. Please examine all photographs closely, as they are an important part of the description.
A wonderful and unusual addition to a vintage Halloween collection, particularly for collectors interested in early candy/nut containers, Halloween graphics and variations of this design.
