Wonderful matched pair of vintage German carved wooden bookends featuring expressive bulldog/pug figures with inset glass eyes.
Each bookend has a hand-carved figure with detailed facial features, paws, ears and wrinkles. The original hand-painted accents appear on the muzzle, tongue, ears and feet, while the firmly inset glass eyes give the pair their distinctive character.
The wooden bookends are impressed MADE IN GERMANY, confirming German manufacture. Their carving and construction are characteristic of vintage German folk and Black Forest-style decorative woodcarving.
