A pair of 1930s French swans: wings up, necks curved, gilt and dark régule on black marble with gold veins. One still wears the Saint-Étienne workshop ticket — Marbrerie d’Art L.C. St-Etienne.
Not anonymous foundry stock. A labelled set from the Loire marble trade, made to hold books and to look expensive on a mantel. Hollywood Regency, classic, MCM. Heavy enough that they stay put. They also stand alone as mantel pieces, paperweights, or small sculptures if you prefer them off the shelf.
