Vintage chimney flue cover featuring an African American Folk Art scene “Picnic in the Clouds”. I believe a lithograph (?) print.
These decorative covers were historically used in 19th and early 20th-century homes to attractively hide messy wall soot holes when wood or coal stoves were put away for the summer.
This round piece features its original period construction: a print protected under glass, bound by a crimped metal rim, and sealed with its original thick cardboard backing. It retains its original metal hanging chain.
Good antique condition, wear consistent with its age and history. The glass is completely intact with no cracks.
The inner print shows minor water damage to the bottom of the print and you see it on the cardboard back. On the cardboard back is written in pencil August 28, 1944, 8 years old (a child writing on the back of it?) showing it’s at least 82 years old.
The metal rim looks to be in good condition with a lovely dark vintage patina, the metal chain is attached. Measures 9.5” diameter.
Please review all photos carefully as they are a primary part of the condition description.
