Vintage Bedford Springs Pennsylvania Postcard Old Mill Road Way
Take a quiet trip down a rural dirt road in early twentieth century Pennsylvania. This great early printed view features a sturdy stone mill tucked right into the hillside next to Bedford Springs. You can almost hear the water running and the wooden wagon wheels grinding along that curved fence line. Look closely at the grass right below the large tree and you will notice the publisher actually blended the text Old Mill and Road Way directly into the landscape rather than dropping it in the empty sky.
The card is completely unposted but definitely shows that it has lived a long life. Expect some standard corner rounding and general edge wear across the board. There is a bit of surface soiling and spotting running down the right front border and a solitary dark spot sitting on the otherwise pristine undivided back side.

Notice the massive wooden fence running along the curved roadway leading to the mill. That specific style is called a post and rail fence. Early rural builders favored this design because it required absolutely no iron nails which were incredibly expensive and hard to come by at the time. Instead they carved deep mortise holes directly into the thick vertical posts and simply slid the horizontal rails into place letting gravity and friction do all the heavy lifting.
