This is an American Plains Indian "Beaver Tail" Dag Knife, a historic 19th-century style weapon heavily favored by northern frontier warriors. The Blade: Features a broad, double-edged 12-inch carbon steel blade. The distinct, un-serrated shape tapers into a point modeled after stone spearheads or a beaver's tail. It shows a prominent median ridge and a heavy, oxidized historic patina. A characteristic indigenous-designed "paddle handle" made of dark hardwood scales. It is ornately adorned on both sides with high-dome brass trade tacks. These tacks are arranged in a decorative, contoured geometric pattern following the curves of the grip.
