Scarce large-format St. Pius X commemorative medal issued in connection with the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and the canonization of Pope Pius X in 1954.This substantial medal measures approximately 70 mm / 2.75 inches across and weighs about 2.1 oz / 59.5 grams.Obverse:
Portrait of St. Pius X with the inscription:
“SAINT PIVS X P.P.”Reverse:
Confraternity of Christian Doctrine shield with the inscription:
“TO RESTORE ALL THINGS IN CHRIST – CONFRATERNITY OF CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE”This exact 70 mm type is cataloged separately from the smaller, more commonly encountered CCD medals and appears to be a much scarcer large presentation-format issue.Includes the fitted presentation case shown in the photos. The medal itself presents very well with attractive age-appropriate patina and surface character. The case shows some age/storage wear, especially to the interior, consistent with its vintage.Metal composition has not been confirmed, so it is being accurately described as silver-tone metal rather than sterling.Approximate details:
