Vintage 8x10 Photo 1927 Stearman C3B Biplane X6257 Wright Aircraft Engines
Confirmed Stearman C3B, Registration X6257, Wright J-5 Whirlwind PowerDESCRIPTIONThis 8x10 photograph comes from the Aitken Collection, a large archive of vintage aviation photography assembled by a longtime collector. The aircraft is a confirmed Stearman C3B, registration X6257, one of 136 examples built between 1927 and 1929 as a three-seat open cockpit biplane with the pilot in the rear cockpit and two passenger seats side by side up front. The C3B was powered by a 220 horsepower Wright J5 Whirlwind radial engine, and this example carries Wright Aeronautical's own winged globe "Wright Aircraft Engines" emblem prominently on the fuselage, pairing the airframe builder's product with the engine that powered it. This specific registration, X6257, is independently documented in the standard civil aircraft registry references, which also credit a separate photograph of this same airframe to another period photo collection, so this is a recognized and identifiable individual aircraft rather than an anonymous type example. The tail carries the marking X6257, shown in close detail in a companion image, and a third view shows the aircraft parked on the ramp with chocks under the wheels. This print is a company archive reprint produced by McDonnell Douglas Corporation (MDC) in St. Louis, pulled from the original period negative rather than an original period press pull, and is represented and priced accordingly as such, not as an original vintage print.Every effort is made for fact checking and provenance including background research through news and historical archives. Image is sharp and clear with good contrast throughout, and the Wright Aircraft Engines emblem and tail marking are both crisp and easy to read. Corners and edges show only light handling wear consistent with age and storage in a collector's binder. No creases, tears, or writing on the image side. Verso carries the MDC St. Louis stamp, a partial date stamp, a "Frames Not Filed" notation, and a typed mailing label. Please review all photos as part of the description, as they are the best representation of the item's condition.
