Wonderful vintage Shriners / Masonic scrapbook and personal memory album with a strong Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Tripoli Shrine connection. The scrapbook was noted by its original owner as a “Memory Book started 1933,” although many of the photographs, clippings and pieces of ephemera date back into the 1920s, with additional material continuing into later years.
This is a large, fascinating collection assembled over many years and includes original photographs, postcards, newspaper clippings, programs, greeting cards, correspondence, travel souvenirs and other period ephemera.
A significant portion relates to Tripoli Shrine / Tripoli Temple of Milwaukee and other Masonic organizations, including photographs of Shriners wearing fezzes, Tripoli Chanters material, Shrine programs and newspaper articles, a 1937 Tripoli Temple boat trip to Detroit aboard the steamer Seeandbee, DeMolay material, and a 1938 Knights Templar Easter Observance program from the Milwaukee Auditorium.
The album also contains a wide variety of Wisconsin and American historical material, including Milwaukee-area photographs and newspaper clippings, church history and architectural material, Golden Lake, Wisconsin postcards, University of Minnesota material, vintage travel souvenirs, hotel advertising, California and East Coast travel pieces, family photographs and much more.
One particularly interesting newspaper piece is a March 26, 1927 Milwaukee Sentinel pictorial page concerning events in Nanking, China and the evacuation of Americans.
This scrapbook remains intact and is being sold exactly as found. Due to its age, the album and pages show considerable expected wear including toning, brittleness, tears, edge loss, loose areas and general age-related deterioration. Individual photographs, clippings and pieces of ephemera vary in condition.
