VINTAGE 1996 CRIPPLE CREEK EFFINGHAM BOB CARGILL FAT STAG HUMPBACK TRAPPER /50
Scarce Cripple Creek collector knife produced for the Indiana Knife Collectors in 1996, from a limited edition of only 50 pieces. The blade is prominently etched in multicolor;“INDIANA KNIFE COLLECTORS 1996 1-50” alongside the Indiana Knife Collectors graphics, while the tang is marked “CRIPPLE CREEK / EFFINGHAM / U.S.A.”
Knife World, when describing a related two-blade Cripple Creek version, referred to it as being made in an old Union Cut. Co pattern. The style is like aswell-center jack with a distinctive “kink” through the center and candle-end bolsters. Its sharply articulated, broad-ended silhouette gives it some of the visual presence associated with classic Bulldog-style knives, while retaining its own unusual swell-center form.
This example is particularly striking for its exceptionally thick, deeply contoured stag handles. The stag has an exaggerated swell through the center—almost a “pregnant” profile when viewed from the spine—and is so full that the knife does not sit completely flat on its side. Rich cream, tan and dark brown coloration with heavy natural bark gives the handles tremendous character.
The knife has good snap, no wobble and works just as it should. No chips or cracks in the handles. It features a single clip-point blade with match-striker pull, buffalo shield, brass pins and candle-end bolsters. The bolster is individually numbered 23. Measures approximately 4\" closed and includes the red cloth pouch ensure you review all photos and use the zoom function.
