The USS Missouri was commissioned in 1944 toward the end of WWII, and saw action on the Eastern Front immediately after launching. She was then chosen to travel to Tokyo Bay and served as the stage for the signing of Japan's formal surrender to the Allied Forces on September 2, 1945, ending the war.
The "Mighty MO" with her nine 16 inch guns mounted in three triple turrets with a range of 23 miles, joined by twenty 5 inch guns in ten twin mounts with a range of 9 miles and eighty 40mm guns in twenty quad mounts presented a formidable appearance of power and dominance of the seas.
