An international superhuman coalition called the Liberators invades the United States and conquers Washington, D.C., forcing the surviving Ultimates to regroup, expose Loki's manipulation, free Thor, and fight a climactic battle in 'Independence Day' that severs their dependence on S.H.I.E.L.D. and reshapes their role as an independent team.
