For your consideration is a nice stereoview titled "Twin Mountain House, Carrol, N.H.". This is a great image looking from a distance toward the hotel and the surrounding buildingswith the mountains in the background. This has a nice 3D effect. The view was photographed and published by Kilburn Brothers, Littleton, N.H. (#491). There is some corner wear andoverall soiling. From New Hampshire Then and Now:
The Twin Mountain House was built in 1868. The hotel was situated just above the intersection of Rt. 3 and Rt. 302 where the information center is today. This hotel could hold up to 300 visitors. Starting in 1872 large crowds would gather at a tent that was set up beside the hotel to hear fiery sermons by the Rev. Henry Ward Beecher which he did for 17 years. The Rev. and his sister Harriet Beecher Stowe enjoyed this area for years. The Twin Mountain Hotel was torn down in 1960.
Over the coming months we will be thinning out our collection focused on the mountains of the Northeast. This collection includes the White Mountains (New Hampshire), Green Mountains (Vermont), Adirondacks (New York), Mt. Katahdin, Mt. Monadnock, and other miscellaneous mountains in the region. Also items concerning the Appalachian Trail. We will be listing hundreds of White Mountain stereoviews in the next several months depicting towns, hotels, Mount Washington, the Cog railway, etc..
