Stunning and exceptionally rare Murano-style art glass cat sculpture, featuring a glossy white body with fine gold aventurine swirl and a pink glass nose accent. This large mid-century modern piece displays the hallmarks of expert craftsmanship — elegant contouring, balanced proportions, and a polished base — all characteristics consistent with authentic Venetian glass artistry.
This piece could possibly be of Murano origin, or from a highly skilled Murano-style studio, based on its weight, clarity, and the controlled aventurine shimmer throughout. While unsigned, the quality and finishing are unmistakably those of a master glassmaker.
The underside has a drilled and lightly polished opening, suggesting it may have been adapted for use as a lamp base at some point. The remainder of the piece is in excellent condition, with no cracks, significant chips, or discolors . It displays beautifully and could easily serve as a sculptural art glass figure, lamp conversion, or centerpiece for a modern space.
This is not to be confused with the smaller Murano-style paperweight cats occasionally found online. Those examples are generally under 9 inches tall, lightweight, and mass-produced with less refined swirl work. This sculpture measures an impressive 14 inches tall and exhibits superior craftsmanship — heavier, clearer, and more polished than the small paperweight versions. The difference in quality and presence is immediately evident in person.
Comparable mid-century art glass animal figures under 5 inches tall have been valued between $135–$200 on premium design platforms such as 1stDibs. This larger 14-inch version — with intricate aventurine detailing and a sophisticated modernist form — represents a much rarer and higher-quality example of Murano-style artistry.
