Britain's most popular pattern (1822) was created during the reign of George IV (1820-1830). It is a pattern that endured for almost 8 decades. This is a very nice example of a brass folding hilt 1822 pattern with ciphers of George IV on both the hilt and the blade. Given its age, the blade is in quite good condition, with fairly clear etching, and has a pipe-back used to strengthen it. The hilt is virtually flawless with excellent wiring of the handle and a clean working section fold. Unfortunately, after 200 years, the distant part of the leather did not hold up on the scabbard, but it is possibly repairable. The metal attachments to the scabbard are accurate, complete, and consistent with the age. This is a relatively rare sword, unlike the following era of William IV, and is legitimate. The curved, shiny blade does not photograph well, but the company is clearly etched: "THO. CLARK EOCETER CHANGE LONDON".
