This stunning hand-colored photographic postcard depicts a charmingstage performer wearing an elaborate pink and cream costume adorned with pearls, ruffles, and gold accents. The image dates from around 1908–1912, the height of the Belle Époque, when actresses and dancers were often photographed in flamboyant theatrical attire to promote their appearances at the Paris music halls. The postcard bears the EAS publisher’s mark, enclosed in a small heart symbol at the lower left corner. This mark identifies EAS- E.A. Schwerdtfeger of Berlin & London. The card is part of a series (No.232).The hand-tinted colorization on this example is especially fine, with soft pastel tones of pink, ivory, and lavender applied delicately to highlight the sitter’s costume and complexion. Her pose, framed against a painted studio backdrop, captures the exuberant theatrical style of the pre–World War I era, when postcards like this were collected and traded across Europe as images of glamour. Although the performer is unidentified, her confident stance and elaborate attire suggest she was a music hall or revue artist, possibly appearing in Parisian venues such as the Folies Bergère or Théâtre Marigny, where similar costumes were worn in elaborate stage productions. This postcard remains in excellent condition, with strong contrast, rich tonality, and vivid hand-tinting that has aged gracefully over more than a century. The reverse is unused and clean. See Scans.
