This tea set consists of a handled platter, teapot, and creamer & sugar set. They were made in Japan in the 1930s for export during the Art Deco period. The outsides have a rough, pebbled surface encrusted with gold and hand-painted blue phoenix panels. The interiors and undersides are an iridescent white lusterware that reflects blue, purple, and green.
The tray measures 9 5/8 inches, the teapot is 8 1/2 inches from handle to spout, the sugar bowl is 4 1/2 inches tall, and the creamer is 3 1/4 inches tall. There are no chips or cracks, but the knob on top of the teapot has been glued back on and there is some minor loss of the gold trim (see photos).
