Great vintage postcard!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
- Type: Vintage mid-century monochrome sepia-toned photo-offset deluxe matte printed lithograph roadside advertising postcard on standard paper stock.
- Publisher & Photographer: Publisher unknown. Produced commercially as an independent promotional piece for hotel guest distribution, featuring a clean divided reverse backing with crisp promotional typography.
- Subject Matter: A beautiful mid-century roadside resort view titled along the lower front border: \"Autopia Guest Lodge • Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Rosenlof, Owners • Phoenix, Arizona.\" The layout showcases a Spanish Revival style stucco motel complex fronted by towering palm trees. The driveway features a spectacular mid-1940s \"Woody\" station wagon automobile parked near the main office awning, balanced by guests strolling the manicured lawns in the foreground.
- Postal History: Divided back configuration completely unposted, unaddressed, and unwritten. The upper left reverse section features a detailed marketing block titled \"Picturesque Autopia - Your Utopia while in Phoenix,\" pitching luxury amenities such as dining, sunbathing, swimming, golf, tennis, riding horses, individual bungalows, and suites equipped with radios and telephones.
- Historical Interest: Outstanding primary source document recording the golden age of Southwestern automobile tourism. Located at 3901 East Van Buren Street, this exact resort lodge served as the official Arizona spring training home for the legendary New York Giants baseball team during their iconic post-war Cactus League training eras.
CONDITION:
Unposted vintage condition. Displays excellent structural integrity with sharp corner tips, straight factory-cut edges, and a remarkably flat cardstock base entirely free of surface creases or handling folds. The sepia ink tones remain deep and stable, while the clean white reverse face displays only very light, uniform natural age-related paper toning from long-term storage. My postcards are standard sized (3.5\" x 5.5\") unless noted. Please examine the enlarged images provided to determine condition, and feel free to ask questions.
