Beautiful and unusual pair of vintage neoclassical figural candleholders, dated 1981 on the underside.
Each candleholder is modeled as a classical female bust with flowing hair, a beaded necklace, draped garment, and elaborate foliate or laurel decoration surrounding the head. The sculptural detailing continues around the sides and back, where a tree-like vertical motif gives the pieces an especially interesting architectural quality.
Finished in a warm, intentionally aged stone/terracotta tone with darker coloration settled into the recessed details, these have the wonderful appearance of weathered archaeological or Grand Tour objects while actually dating to the late 20th century.
Designed to hold standard taper candles, they are particularly striking displayed as a pair on a mantel, console, bookshelf, or dining table.

Condition
Good vintage condition with intentional antiqued coloration as well as genuine age-related surface wear. There are scattered small nicks, abrasions, surface irregularities and losses, including a noticeable chip/loss to the tip of one figure's nose. The rustic, weathered finish is part of their character. Please examine all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description.
Candles shown in photographs are for display purposes and are not included unless otherwise stated.
