・Ogata Gekkō (October 10, 1859 – October 1, 1920) was a Japanese *ukiyo-e* artist and painter in the traditional Japanese style, active during the Meiji and Taishō periods. He was largely self-taught, having taken up art at his father\'s strong urging; he also deeply admired and studied the works of Kikuchi Yōsai (also known as the mentor of Watanabe Seitei), particularly *Zenken Kojitsu* (Biographies of Sages and Worthies). In addition to *ukiyo-e* prints and *kuchie* (frontispiece illustrations), he produced outstanding original paintings of beautiful women (*nikuhitsu bijinga*).
・This is an authentic *ukiyo-e* woodblock print from the time of its original publication. It depicts a beautiful woman gazing at a Japanese Chin dog, from the series *Bijin Hana Kurabe* (A Competition of Beauties and Flowers).
・Woodblock print dimensions (approximate): Height 36.5 cm x Width 24.5 cm.
・Print condition: As shown in the photos. The condition is average for an item of this age, with minor staining, minor damage, and minor scuffing (please check the photos for details).
