Vintage Modeline of California Model 9185 sculptural lamp designed by Arthur Jacobs, dating to the late 1960s/early 1970s.
A striking and uncommon Mid-Century Modern lighting design featuring a tall, tapered sculptural wood framework surrounding translucent diffuser panels with brass-tone hardware.
The lamp measures approximately 41" tall, 9" at its widest point, with a 6.5" × 6.5" base.
The Model 9185 identification, Arthur Jacobs designer attribution and late-1960s/early-1970s dating were confirmed by Modeline historian and author Nick Ferrell, who identified the lamp from his Modeline catalog references.
The lamp retains its vintage electrical components, including two ceramic sockets, switch mechanism, cord and two-prong plug. Both sockets have been tested and are working.
Currently fitted with vintage-style red and green Sylvania 25W transparent incandescent bulbs. These colored bulbs are NOT original to the lamp but are included. They create a dramatic illuminated effect: red and green can be displayed individually or together, producing a blended gradient through the diffuser. The lamp is in good vintage condition with age-appropriate cosmetic wear. The original wood finish shows scattered scratches, finish loss and edge wear, particularly along portions of one of the long wooden uprights and around the base. Brass-tone/metal components show natural age and patina. Diffuser panels remain intact. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
The lamp has not been refinished or rewired. Because the electrical components and cord are vintage, a buyer may wish to have the lamp inspected by a qualified professional before regular use.
The colored bulbs are included in the lamp for shipment.
