MISHKAT AL-MASABIH
English Translation with Explanatory Notes
By James Robson, D. Litt., D.D.
Emeritus Professor of Arabic, University of Manchester
Lahore: Sh. Muhammad Ashraf, 1965–1973
Four volumes, complete
⸻
A complete four-volume English translation of Mishkat al-Masabih, one of the most important classical Sunni hadith compilations, translated and annotated by the distinguished Arabist James Robson.
Octavo volumes bound in publisher’s cloth, issued with the original decorative dust jackets. Volumes I–IV, covering Parts I–XVIII. All volumes retain marbled fore-edges and ribbon markers. Printed at Ashraf Press, Lahore, and published by Sh. Muhammad Ashraf, Kashmiri Bazar, Lahore (Pakistan).
Condition:
A very good matched set. Bindings are sound and firm with clean interiors; no significant annotation noted. Dust jackets present on all volumes, showing expected age-related wear including edge chipping, fading, small losses, and occasional staining, but remain largely intact and attractive. A well-preserved scholarly set with honest signs of use.
Notes:
Robson’s translation remains a standard English-language reference for Islamic studies and is frequently cited in academic literature. Complete sets are increasingly difficult to find, particularly with all original dust jackets present.
