Mid-19th-century GERMANIC Central European brass-hilted Officer Sword Civil War?:
$349.95

For your consideration, I present this vintage military-style sword/saber featuring a curved steel blade, decorative guard, and original-style grip and scabbard.

I don't have any history on the weapon, but my research suggests it may be Germanic/Central European, including one of the pre-unification German states, Austria, Belgium, or a neighboring country. During the mid-19th century there were numerous officer and militia patterns that don't fit neatly into the better-known standardized German Imperial swords of the later 1800s.

There is one other possibility as well.

An American Civil War-period association is possible chronologically, but I cannot confirm it as a U.S. Civil War sword. The hilt does not resemble the standard U.S. Model 1840/1860 cavalry sabers or the common Model 1850 officer swords closely enough to justify that attribution. European swords certainly reached the United States, however, so European manufacture doesn't automatically rule out American use.

The sword has an attractive aged appearance with wear, patina, oxidation, scratches, and surface discoloration consistent with age and previous use. No visible maker's marks, stamps, or identifying numbers were found during inspection.

The sword and scabbard display nicely and would make an interesting addition to a collection of antique or vintage militaria, edged weapons, military swords, or historical display pieces.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description and show the exact item you will receive. Because no maker's markings are visible, the exact manufacturer, country of origin, and period of manufacture cannot be guaranteed.

Condition: Vintage/used condition with age-related wear, patina, oxidation, scratches, staining, and other imperfections. No attempt has been made to clean, polish, sharpen, or restore the sword.

Sold as pictured and as found.
