1. Estimated GradeVery Fine Plus 8.5Justification: This rare indie key issue presents with excellent high-grade structural features, maintaining vibrant original cover colors, highly reflective surface gloss, and sharp corners. The grade is primarily limited by very minor handling wear along the spine, consisting of a few tiny spine stress lines that slightly break the dark background ink on the back cover, along with extremely light paper softening at the spine tips. It lacks any major creasing, staining, or structural defects, keeping it safely near the top tier of uncertified copies.2. Defects
- Front Cover: A few micro-sized, non-color-breaking dimples near the margins visible under direct reflective light. Subtle, natural paper softening at the corner tips.
- Spine: Straight and structurally rigid. Three to four tiny spine ticks are visible along the edge, with two very lightly breaking color on the dark purple sections of the back cover art. Minor paper fuzzing at the extreme top and bottom spine tips.
- Back Cover: Light surface shelf rubbing on the clean white borders. Very faint edge aging along the extreme outer perimeters.
- Interior Pages: Complete, flat, and securely attached to both factory staples. The editorial intro page and Vanguard comic splash page display off-white page coloration that is exceptionally fresh and free of tearing or foxing.
3. Condition AssessmentThe cumulative flaws on this independent press book are remarkably minor and entirely limited to light cosmetic handling. The spine line tracks perfectly flat and linear without any twisting or spine roll, and the interior staples remain clean and completely rust-free. While independent black-and-white publications from this era often suffer from heavy shelf wear, this copy has preserved its original glossy presentation and structural strength beautifully. These subtle blemish notes keep it just shy of a pristine Near Mint grade while confirming a highly desirable high-grade status.
