Lockheed Electra NC-625E 1930s Twin-Engine Airliner 8x10 Photo
Aitken Collection Company Reprint, MDC St. Louis 1979DESCRIPTIONThis 8x10 photograph shows a Lockheed Model 10 Electra on the ramp, its registration NC-625E marked clearly on the tail alongside Lockheed's own winged-star factory emblem. Introduced in 1934, the Electra was Lockheed's first twin-engine, all-metal airliner, an aerodynamically advanced design built with the help of a young engineer named Kelly Johnson, whose wind tunnel work at the University of Michigan led directly to the twin tail fin that became a Lockheed trademark for decades afterward. The type is best remembered today as the aircraft Amelia Earhart flew, in a modified 10E Special variant, on her final flight in 1937, though the standard production Electra pictured here is a separate example with its own service history. This print comes from the Aitken Collection, a large single-owner archive of official company photograph reprints produced at the McDonnell Douglas Corporation's St. Louis facility in 1979 and mailed directly to the collector, Donald and Barbara Aitken of Irvine, California, whose typed mailing label and the MDC St. Louis stamp are still visible on the reverse. Because this print was pulled from the archive negative and reproduced decades after the photograph was originally taken, it is offered and priced as a documented 1979 company reprint rather than an original period press pull. The image was scanned at 600dpi so every detail, down to the factory tail markings, is fully visible before you buy.Every effort is made toward fact checking and provenance, including background research through news and historical archives. If any listing is incorrect in any way and you're unsatisfied with the item, please connect with me and I'll make it right. Orders placed before Noon CDT ship same day via Ground Advantage with tracking, so you know exactly when it will arrive. Returns are accepted on all items exceeding $25 in cost. Every shipment is packaged rigidly and professionally, sealed and protected in acid free sleeves. Shipping is free and already built into the price, so the BIN price is exactly what you pay, no surprise shipping costs at checkout.CONDITIONThis is an original 1979 photographic paper print (not a modern digital reprint), produced by McDonnell Douglas Corporation from an archive negative. The image itself is clean and sharp with good contrast throughout. As with any print of this age, please examine the photos closely, as they're part of the description and show the actual item's condition, including the reverse with its mailing label and archive stamp.
