Irish Free State: The Service Medal 1917-1921. Scarce bronze medal authorizedby the Irish Free State on 26 May 1942, and awarded to persons who were membersof Irish Republican Army, Fianna Éireann, Cumann nam Ban or the Irish CitizenArmy for a minimum of three months ending on 11 July 1921 (see Hogan, James J. Badges,Medals, Insignia: Irish Defense Forces (1987) pp. 71-72; O’Toole, Eamonn. Decorationsand Medals of the Republic of Ireland (1990) pp. 26-27). These medals werenever officially named or numbered, but included space of the reverse side fornaming by the recipient. The medal is in near extremely fine condition, on theoriginal ribbon and brooch; the ribbon is a bit dirty, but intact.
