The Harvard Mine is a historic hard-rock gold mine located just west of Jamestown in Tuolumne County, California, along the Mother Lode gold belt.
Discovery & Early Days (1848–1891): The initial deposit was discovered around 1848 during the California Gold Rush, with organized underground production officially commencing around 1891. Early 20th Century Production (1906–1916): The underground mine operated extensively through this era, producing roughly 100,000 troy ounces of gold from a system featuring deep shafts (reaching over 1,500 to 1,850 feet) and quartz-fissure veins. Several ore shoots up to 200 feet in length have been developed over the years. Workings include underground openings comprised of 2 shafts 1,000 feet apart. The N shaft is 700 feet deep with a winze to 1,850 foot level. The S shaft has levels at 150 foot intervals
