An attractive late 19thor early 20thCentury 3 blade whittler with nice jigged bone scales by Warris of Sheffield. Warris dates their origins back to George Warris who started his cutlery business some time around the 1850’s. As the firm became “George Warris & Sons” around 1906; and as it has the “England” marking introduced around 1891, between those dates – so late 19thto early 20thCentury.
Measures approximately 3 1/2 inches long overall, closed. Master blade measures approximately 2 ¼ inches long, edge only. Obverse tang stamped “Warris Sheffield England”. Pen blade measures approximately 1 3/8 inches long, edge only. Obverse tang with identical stamp. Sheep foot blade measures approximately 1 3/8 inches long, edge only. Identical tang stamp to the reverse tang. Nice jigged bone scales secured by three pins, obverse with traditional unengraved shield. Nickel silver bolsters to each end. Brass liners.
Good snap to all three blades. Obverse scale with a hairline crack running from the liner through the the left hand pin and thence to the bolster. Blades clean with some scratching and light stains. Bolsters clean and bright.
